Agartala, Apr 02. With the upcoming by-election drawing closer, the political atmosphere in Dharmanagar has heated up, as the CPI(M)-led Left Front organised a massive rally to showcase its strength and rally support for its candidate Amitabh Dutta. The town witnessed a sea of red flags as thousands of supporters from across North Tripura participated in the gathering, signalling strong mobilisation on the ground.
Addressing the rally, Leader of Opposition and CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Chaudhury sharply criticised the ruling government, alleging failures in governance, rising drug abuse, and declining standards in education. He also raised concerns over alleged irregularities in Aryabhatta International University, claiming that certificates are being sold for money, which, according to him, is harming the future of the younger generation. He further pointed out that despite Dharmanagar’s importance as the gateway to Tripura, there is no concrete plan to establish a railway division in the region.
“People of Dharmanagar are ready for change. Amitabh Dutta’s victory will not just be CPI(M)’s win, but a victory for restoring people’s rights,” Chaudhury said, while also accusing the ruling party of using pressure tactics and monetary influence at the grassroots level.
The rally saw the presence of several key leaders including Krishna Rakshit, Islam Uddin, Shailendra Chandra Nath, Sabdar Uddin, along with district and sub-divisional leadership, while participation of women and youth was notably high.
Amitabh Dutta, projected as a clean-image candidate by the Left, has been gaining momentum through sustained grassroots campaigning and public outreach, which party leaders believe has been further strengthened by the massive turnout at the rally. Speakers at the event highlighted key issues such as unemployment, rising prices, and the need to restore democratic functioning in the state.
