Ambassa, April 1: Tension and concern gripped the area after the death of a patient following a stone surgery at Dhalai Nursing Home in the Kulai area of Dhalai district. The deceased has been identified as Bhabatosh Debbarma (62). Family members have lodged a written complaint at the police station, alleging medical negligence and an attempt to conceal the circumstances surrounding his death.
According to the complaint, the patient was admitted to the nursing home at around 5:45 PM on March 29 for a gallbladder stone operation. The surgery was reportedly performed the following day under the supervision of Dr. Suman Paul. The family claimed that the patient’s condition initially appeared normal after the operation, and there were no immediate signs of any life-threatening complications.
However, as per the allegations, the patient’s health suddenly deteriorated on the night of March 31. In her written complaint, the deceased’s wife Shyamali Debbarma alleged that the nursing home authorities tried to suppress the actual situation and, in an attempt to avoid legal responsibility, referred the patient to Kulai District Hospital at around 3:45 AM, allegedly showing him as alive.
The complaint further stated that instead of using a proper ambulance, the patient was shifted in a private vehicle, raising further questions over the handling of the emergency.
Following the incident, the family members approached Ambassa Police Station and demanded the registration of an FIR against the doctor and the nursing home authorities. They have called for a fair investigation and strict legal action against those found responsible.
