Agartala, Feb 24: Reaffirming the government’s commitment to transparency in recruitment, Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on Tuesday distributed appointment offers to 52 candidates for the posts of TFS Grade-I Fishery Officers at a programme held at Pragya Bhavan.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that the state government is ensuring fair and transparent job distribution, with no scope for favoritism or hidden practices. “The appointment offers are being distributed publicly to maintain transparency. There is no secrecy in the process,” he stated.
He emphasized that the government’s primary objective is public welfare, and providing employment to deserving candidates is a key part of that mission. “Only qualified individuals are getting jobs now. There is no need for recommendations. Those who prove their merit through education are being selected,” he added.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the improved law and order situation and enhanced connectivity in the state, which have made it easier for employees to work in remote areas. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for focusing on the development of the Northeast, leading to significant improvements in infrastructure and communication.
Encouraging the newly appointed officers, Dr. Saha urged them to enhance their skills continuously and serve people with dedication and compassion. “Life is not only for oneself, but also for others. Officials must work with a sense of responsibility towards the people,” he said.
He further informed that the state government has provided jobs to 20,248 individuals so far and is also promoting self-reliance alongside employment generation.
Highlighting the fisheries sector, the Chief Minister said that Tripura currently ranks second among Northeastern states in fish production and aims to secure the top position. The government has undertaken several initiatives, including restoration of abandoned water bodies, excavation of new ponds, and promotion of scientific fish farming.
Special emphasis has been given to increasing fish production in Indigenous areas, with Rs 22 crore sanctioned for 23 such regions. Under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Yojana, over 26,000 fishermen have benefited in the past five years, while more than 14,000 have received assistance under the Chief Minister’s Matsya Vikas Yojana. Additionally, over 1.10 lakh fishermen have been brought under insurance coverage, and financial assistance amounting to Rs 11.94 crore has been provided to 30,000 fishermen affected by natural calamities.
Speaking on the occasion, Fisheries Minister Sudhangshu Das said that the state currently produces 89,000 metric tonnes of fish annually, marking a 4 percent increase in recent years. He stressed that hard work and integrity are the keys to progress and called for coordination among public representatives, officials, and fish farmers to achieve self-sufficiency in fish production.
The welcome address was delivered by Fisheries Department Secretary Deepa D. Nayar, while Director Santosh Das and other officials were also present at the programme.
