Gomati: Feb 21: Teachers working under the Samagra Shiksha project in Tripura have demanded immediate regularisation of their services, withdrawal of the State government’s Special Leave Petition (SLP) from the Supreme Court of India, and timely disbursement of salaries, alleging prolonged deprivation and uncertainty.
The Tripura Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan Teachers’ Association submitted a 10-point memorandum during a deputation programme organised at the Sub-Divisional School Inspector’s office in Udaipur on Saturday.
The delegation handed over the memorandum to School Inspector Alokananda Jamatia in the presence of Sub-Divisional president Priyalal Ghosh, secretary Manas Majumdar and district president Ratan Rudra Paul, among others. Citing the verdict of the Tripura High Court in favour of the teachers, the association urged the State government to implement the order without delay instead of contesting it before the apex court, stating that the teaching community lacks the financial capacity to engage in a prolonged legal battle.
The association further demanded that salaries be credited on the first working day of every month, exemption from additional administrative duties such as Booth Level Officer assignments, a monthly allowance of ₹1,000 for teachers serving as Teacher-in-Charge on par with regular government teachers, introduction of Child Care Leave for women teachers, pension benefits for retired educators, and implementation of a “die-in-harness” scheme to support families of deceased teachers.
It also called for timely distribution of textbooks at the beginning of the academic year, immediate recruitment to fill long-pending vacancies across schools, and cancellation of distant deputation transfers with restoration to original workplaces.
Association leaders expressed hope that the concerned department would take urgent and positive steps to resolve the issues in the interest of teachers and the overall quality of education in the State.
