Tripura, 21 Feb 2026: The Agartala–Dhaka–Kolkata Maitree Bus Service, which had remained suspended since September 2024 due to unrest in Bangladesh, is set to resume operations following a successful trial run.
The service was earlier halted considering the unstable situation in Bangladesh and the safety of passengers. However, with the formation of a stable government in Bangladesh under the leadership of Tarique Rahman and the simplification of visa procedures between India and Bangladesh, efforts have been made to restore cross-border connectivity.
A trial run of the bus service from Agartala to Dhaka began today. According to Tripura Road Transport Corporation (TRTC) Vice Chairman Samar Roy, the trial phase will continue until February 27. Regular passenger services are scheduled to resume from February 28.
Speaking on the development, Samar Roy said that the international bus service between Agartala and Dhaka had been suspended for a long time due to various adverse conditions. Following the completion of parliamentary elections in Bangladesh, officials including Maitree Bus operator Mahadev Das and others have arrived in Agartala to oversee the trial runs over the next few days.
He further informed that from February 28, the bus service will operate from Agartala to Dhaka and onward to Kolkata. Additionally, visa services at the High Commissions in Agartala and Dhaka have been reopened and simplified, ensuring smoother processing for travelers.
Authorities have urged passengers to take advantage of the resumed service. Ticket bookings for the Agartala–Dhaka–Kolkata route will open from February 28, and officials assured that there will be no major obstacles for travel.
The resumption of the Maitree Bus Service is expected to strengthen connectivity and people-to-people ties between India and Bangladesh.
