Khowai: Feb 21: A seven-month pregnant woman and a 60-year-old woman were injured following an alleged late-night raid by personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) at Chamabasti under Asharambari Assembly Constituency in Khowai district, triggering tension in the area.
According to family members, 10-15 BSF personnel allegedly entered the house late Thursday night after firing several rounds in the air. The pregnant woman was reportedly pushed to the ground, suffering abdominal injuries, while her mother-in-law was allegedly struck on the head with a torchlight when she stepped out after hearing gunshots.
Both injured women were rushed to Khowai District Hospital for treatment. Their condition was not officially disclosed at the time of filing this report.
Doors Broken, Assault Alleged:
The family alleged that BSF personnel broke open two doors with sharp weapons and entered the house without any woman constable present. A young woman was allegedly dragged off her bed and thrown to the floor. The pregnant woman, said to be seven months along, complained of severe abdominal pain following the incident.
Earlier on Thursday afternoon, a local resident identified as Sushankar Deb was allegedly detained and assaulted by BSF personnel over an unspecified complaint. He later sought treatment at Khowai District Hospital. The family claims the night-time raid followed this incident.
No Official Statement Yet
When asked about the allegations, BSF officials had not issued any formal response till the time of reporting.
Residents questioned the use of force, stating that while security agencies have the mandate to curb illegal cross-border activities, action against one suspect should not result in harm to family members, especially women.
Rising Tension in the Area
The incident has sparked unrest in Chamabasti, with villagers demanding a fair and impartial inquiry. Concerns have also been raised over recurring cattle thefts and cross-border crimes in the region, with some locals alleging gaps in border vigilance.
