North Tripura: Feb 20: A total of 41 villagers underwent health screening at a Village Health, Sanitation and Nutrition Day (VHND) camp held at Maniknagar Anganwadi Centre under Kadamtala block in North Tripura on Thursday. The camp detected 32 cases of diabetes and 31 cases of hypertension, highlighting the growing burden of non-communicable diseases in rural areas.
The special health camp was organised by the Kurti Sub-Centre under Kadamtala Community Health Centre (CHC) to ensure doorstep healthcare services for local residents. Community Health Officer Dr. Anjan Das led the medical team.
According to official sources, apart from diabetes and hypertension cases, four patients were diagnosed with Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) and three with fever-related ailments. All patients received free medical check-ups and necessary medicines on the spot.
Alongside treatment services, a health awareness session was conducted to educate villagers on preventive healthcare. Key topics included anaemia and nutrition for pregnant women and children, prevention of water-borne diseases such as diarrhoea, malaria prevention through mosquito net usage and sanitation, lifestyle changes for managing non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and the importance of personal hygiene and regular handwashing.
The camp was supported by one Multi-Purpose Worker (MPW) and two ASHA workers, who facilitated community participation and service delivery.
Health officials stated that similar outreach initiatives will continue in the coming months to strengthen primary healthcare services at the grassroots level.
