Dharmanagar: Feb 14: Voting for the Bar Council of Tripura Election–2026 was held across the state on Tuesday, with polling underway at the Dharmanagar Bar Association from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Counting of votes will take place on February 21.
According to Election Observer Jiban Krishna Sen, the Bar Council is the apex autonomous body of advocates in the state and is responsible for enrolment and regulation of lawyers. A total of 17 candidates are contesting for 14 seats, including three seats reserved for women.
As of 1:30 PM, out of 151 registered voters at the Dharmanagar centre, 110 votes had been cast. Advocates from Kanchanpur and Panisagar also arrived to exercise their franchise at the Dharmanagar polling station.
Three women candidates Madhumita Choudhury, Priyanka Mazumder and Rajasree Purakayastha have already been elected unopposed under the reserved category.
Among the candidates is Sudarshan Sharma, nominated by the BJP Legal Cell, contesting from North Tripura outside Agartala. Speaking to the media, Sharma expressed confidence of securing a decisive victory in the election.
The Bar Council of Tripura serves as the highest statutory body governing the legal profession in the state.
