Tripura, 13 Feb 2026: In a major anti-narcotics operation, Tripura Police seized approximately 121 kilograms of suspected dry ganja from a luxury vehicle at Barabil on the national highway while it was en route from Kamalpur to Khowai. The operation was carried out on the basis of specific intelligence inputs on Friday afternoon.
At around 4 PM, plainclothes police personnel intercepted the white Swift VXi car (registration number TR01L4923) in the Barabil area. Two individuals were detained from the vehicle. They have been identified as Jayanta Sarkar (26), a resident of Madhuban, Amtali, and Rony Rudrapal (22) from Panchmukh, AD Nagar.
A thorough search of the vehicle was conducted in the presence of a magistrate, during which multiple packets containing around 121 kg of suspected dry ganja were recovered. The seized contraband tested positive in preliminary field testing kits.
Khowai Sub-Divisional Magistrate D. Kuddairassu, Officer-in-Charge of Khowai Police Station Krishnadhan Sarkar, and officer Francis Halam, along with other officials, were present during the seizure operation.
According to the Officer-in-Charge, the operation was initiated based on a tip-off received by the mobile patrol team. Acting swiftly, the police set up vehicle checking and intercepted the suspicious car. Upon inspection, the large quantity of ganja was found concealed in several packets inside the vehicle.
The estimated black market value of the seized contraband is more than ₹5 lakh. The police have arrested both accused and registered a case under the NDPS Act. Further investigation is underway to uncover the network behind the illegal drug transportation.
