Tripura, 08 Feb 2026: An awareness programme under the Child Marriage-Free India Campaign and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao was organised on Saturday at the Block Advisory Committee (BAC) Hall in Mungiakami. The programme was conducted at the block level under the initiative of the Department of Social Welfare and Social Education through the Mungiakami ICDS Project.
The programme was formally inaugurated by Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma. Addressing the gathering, the minister said that the Central and State governments are working in a coordinated manner to empower women through education and economic self-reliance. He emphasised that the foundation of social education begins at Anganwadi centres and urged Anganwadi workers to perform their responsibilities with sincerity and dedication.
The programme was attended by Sunil Debbarma, Chairman of the Mungiakami Block Advisory Committee, as a special guest. Other dignitaries present included Abhijit Kumar Das, Block Development Officer of Mungiakami; Pradip Kumar Sarkar, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Teliamura Municipal Council; Shubinoy Bhowmik, Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) of the Teliamura Urban ICDS Project; and social worker Prashanta Debbarma, among others.
The welcome address was delivered by Ajit Mohan Jamatia, Child Development Project Officer of the Mungiakami ICDS Project. Speakers at the programme highlighted the social and legal consequences of child marriage and stressed the importance of promoting girls’ education under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative.
During the programme, engagement letters were distributed to three Anganwadi workers and three Anganwadi helpers. Certificates and prizes were also awarded to six girl students of Mungiakami Higher Secondary School for their outstanding performance in the Madhyamik and Higher Secondary examinations. In addition, cheques under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana were handed over to three mothers.
Anganwadi workers, helpers, and students from various schools across the Mungiakami block attended the programme, making it a significant step towards creating awareness against child marriage and promoting women empowerment in the region.
