A Myanmar national identified as Kabil Anam was arrested by Amtali Police from the Hapania area for allegedly residing in India illegally for the past two months, police said on Saturday.
Acting on specific tip-off, police detained the youth on Saturday and registered a case against him under relevant sections of law. He was produced before the court on Saturday afternoon, where police sought remand for further interrogation.
According to police, questioning during remand is expected to reveal who provided shelter and assistance to the foreign national during his stay in the area.
Providing details, Amtali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Paritosh Das said the investigation is underway and all angles are being examined.
