Tripura, 05 Feb 2026: The Election Commission of India (ECI) will organise a National Conference of State Election Commissioners (SECs) on February 24. State Election Commissioners from all States and Union Territories are expected to participate in the conference, which will be held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
The National SEC Conference is being convened after a gap of more than 25 years. The last such conference was held in 1999.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar will preside over the conference, while Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi will also be present and address the State Election Commissioners.
State Election Commissioners will attend the conference along with their legal and technical experts and will share their views and experiences. Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) of all 36 States and Union Territories, who function under the ECI, will also be present at the national conference.
The primary objective of the conference is to strengthen coordination and cooperation between the ECI and the State Election Commissions in matters related to electoral processes and logistics, within their respective legal frameworks.
Participants will deliberate on electoral laws concerning voter eligibility in States and Union Territories, as well as on technology-driven initiatives led by the ECI, including the recently launched ECINET digital platform, Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), and other related issues.
The ECI will also provide expert support based on its experience in the preparation of electoral rolls and the conduct of elections, in accordance with the Constitution and the legal framework of the country.
State Election Commissions have been constituted under the provisions of the 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendments and the relevant State laws. The responsibility for the preparation of electoral rolls and the superintendence, direction, and control of elections to Panchayats and Municipal bodies rests with the State Election Commissions. This information was stated in an official release from the Office of the State Chief Electoral Officer.
