Dharmanagar: Feb 05. An intensive awareness campaign against child marriage was conducted in Dharmanagar today under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and Child Marriage Free India programmes. The initiative was organised by the North Tripura District Social Welfare & Social Education Department, with support from the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), North Tripura, aiming to promote a child-marriage-free society.
The programme was inaugurated by Saha-Sabhadhipati of North Tripura Zilla Parishad, Bhabatosh Das, in the presence of Chief Medical Officer Dr Dipak Haldar, Senior Deputy Magistrate C Lalfaksanga, Assistant Sub-Divisional Magistrate David Hollam, District Social Welfare Officer Habib Hossain, and District Mission Coordinator Suria Parveen, along with other officials.
Addressing the gathering, District Mission Coordinator Suria Parveen said the country has set a target to make India child-marriage-free by 2030. She emphasised that building a healthy society is impossible without eliminating child marriage, adding that the programme’s core objective is to ensure a healthy society and a strong nation.
She further noted that despite social progress, child marriage still persists due to deep-rooted social practices. Stressing collective responsibility, she urged people from all sections of society to unite and pledge against this harmful social evil.
The campaign focused on spreading awareness, encouraging community participation, and reinforcing the government’s commitment to eradicating child marriage through sustained social action.
