Agartala: Feb 04. The Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) today held a one-day Central Executive Committee Conference, where the party discussed key political and organisational issues ahead of the upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections.
The conference was held at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Youth Hostel and was attended by IPFT President Prem Kumar Reang, General Secretary Swapan Debbarma, Vice President K.K. Jamatia and other senior party leaders.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, IPFT General Secretary Swapan Debbarma said the party held four major discussions during the conference. He said the party discussed the formation of a five-member Political Coordination Committee, which will hold talks with different political parties to explore the possibility of alliances for the upcoming TTAADC polls.
The party also discussed launching a Delhi Abhiyan in the first week of March, the date of which will be announced soon. The proposed programme will be organised in support of the party’s demand for a separate Tipraland state. During the Delhi programme, discussions are also expected to be held with the central leadership regarding the passage of the long-pending 125th Constitutional Amendment Bill.
Another key discussion focused on development-related issues surrounding the proposed Nagar Panchayat formation in the Bishramganj area, particularly disputes arising from boundary demarcation. In this connection, a five-member committee has been discussed, with IPFT Vice-President and retired TCS officer Pradip Kumar Debbarma as chairman and General Secretary Swapan Debbarma as convenor.
The conference also discussed the appointment of observers and the formation of a steering committee to oversee preparations for the upcoming ADC elections.
