Tripura, 3 Feb, 2026: In connection with a theft case registered in neighbouring Mizoram, a team of the Mizoram Police conducted an early morning operation on Tuesday in the Churaibari police station area of North Tripura, leading to the recovery of stolen cash and an ATM card. However, Mizoram Police refrained from making any official statement before the media regarding the operation.
According to local sources, around 9 am, a special team from Kanmuan Police Station, Mizoram, with assistance from Churaibari Police, carried out a search at the residence of Hossain Ahmed (27), son of Md. Zamir Uddin, a resident of Simul Tila area under Ward No. 2 of Shanichhara Gram Panchayat. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, police suspected that an inter-state accused—Jasim Uddin, a resident of Asimganj in Sribhumi district, who was allegedly living there after marriage under the alias Hossain Ahmed—was hiding at the location.
As per the complaint, the accused had allegedly stolen cash and an ATM card along with its password from a house within the jurisdiction of Kanmuan Police Station, Mizoram, a few days earlier. It was further alleged that some amount was withdrawn using the ATM card before it was subsequently blocked. Following a written complaint by the victim at Kanmuan Police Station, the investigation led to the joint operation in Tripura.
However, before the police vehicle reached the area, the accused managed to flee, leaving behind his wife at the house. During the subsequent search, police recovered ₹1.91 lakh in cash, the ATM card, and several related documents from the premises.
After completing the necessary legal formalities at Churaibari Police Station, the recovered items were formally seized and later handed over to the Mizoram Police.
The operation was led by ASI Banlal Rola and Head Constable R. Lalhamuowala of the Mizoram Police, along with other personnel, with active cooperation from Churaibari Police.
Meanwhile, local residents alleged that the forest-covered Simul Tila area has long been known as a refuge for various illegal activities. They further claimed that the accused frequently visited the area after marrying a local resident and that other miscreants associated with him also occasionally took shelter there. In view of the situation, locals have urged the North District Police Administration to take swift and stringent action to curb illegal activities in the area.
