Agartala: Feb 03. In a significant push to modernise and streamline rural market systems, the state government today laid the foundation stone for the Rural Haat Infrastructure Development Project at Jamjuri Bazaar under Udaipur sub-division. The initiative has been taken by the state’s Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare.
The foundation stone was formally laid around 11 am by Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, who also marked the inauguration by watering a sapling at the venue. The project aims to create a modern and organised marketplace that will directly benefit local farmers, traders and consumers.
Speaking on the occasion, Finance Minister Roy said that strengthening rural haat infrastructure would ensure better marketing facilities and fair prices for farmers’ produce, while also boosting the rural economy. He reiterated the state government’s commitment to development-oriented programmes under its vision of building a “Developed Tripura,” with special emphasis on agriculture and farmer welfare.
The event was attended by Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Debal Debroy, local MLA Jitendra Majumder, Director of the Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department Dr Phani Bhushan Jamatia, BAC Chairman of Kakraban RD Block Upendra Jamatia, along with other public representatives, officials and dignitaries. The programme was presided over by Kakraban Agriculture Subdivision Agriculture Officer Dr Raju Majumder.
In his welcome address, Dr Majumder said that once implemented, the project would provide farmers with a more organised environment to sell their agricultural produce, leading to direct benefits for farmers, traders and the general public.
According to officials, the completion of the project is expected to transform Jamjuri Bazaar with modern infrastructure, improve market management and contribute significantly to the overall socio-economic development of the area. The programme concluded with the unveiling of the project plaque by the Finance Minister and other guests.
