Assam, 02 Feb 2026: Cachar Police achieved a major breakthrough in their ongoing crackdown against the illegal drug trade by seizing heroin worth approximately ₹4.70 crore during an anti-narcotics operation in Silchar on Yesterday.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, police conducted a raid at Meherpur MHC Lane under the jurisdiction of Silchar Police Station. During the operation, police recovered 85 soap boxes containing heroin, with a total weight of 947 grams.

One person has been arrested in connection with the case. The accused has been identified as Shamima (or Sami) Mehmed, a resident of Patharkandi in Sribhumi district. According to police, the accused was staying as a tenant at a rented house belonging to one Nizamuddin in the Meherpur area of Silchar.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had allegedly brought the heroin from outside the state and stored it at the rented house with the intention of smuggling it through Cachar district to other states. The contraband was concealed inside soap boxes to evade detection.
A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway. Police stated that if any forward or backward linkages involving other individuals emerge during the course of the investigation, strict legal action will be taken against all those involved.
Cachar Police reiterated their commitment to continue strong action against drug trafficking networks operating in the region.
