Reels Mean Revenue! Union Budget Backs Gen Z’s Alternative Careers with Content Labs in 2,000 Institutions
New Delhi, 01 Feb 2026: Moving beyond the confines of traditional jobs, India’s Gen Z is increasingly embracing alternative income avenues—and the Union Budget has formally acknowledged this shift. In a significant announcement, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman revealed a major push to promote content creation as a viable profession, backed by substantial budgetary support.
As part of the initiative, the Centre will set up modern Content Creator Labs in 2,000 educational institutions across the country, including 1,500 schools and 500 colleges. These labs will provide hands-on training in digital content creation, video editing, reels production, photography, and social media management, equipping students with industry-relevant skills.
With platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube enabling millions of young Indians to achieve financial independence, experts believe this government move will further strengthen the digital creator ecosystem. The initiative is being hailed as a landmark step toward aligning education with evolving employment trends and empowering the youth to build sustainable careers in the digital economy.
