Tripura, 30 Nov 2025: A major road blockade erupted on Sunday morning in North Tripura’s Kadamtala area as residents, led predominantly by members of the Pramila Bahini, protested against a severe drinking water crisis. The incident took place on the Kadamtala–Dharmanagar main road near the Lower Gate area.
According to the agitating villagers, Ward No. 4 of Bishnupur Panchayat has been without drinking water for the past two months. Despite repeatedly informing the local Panchayat and even the administrative authorities, no action has been taken. Frustrated by the ongoing crisis, villagers blocked the road around 10:30 AM, demanding an immediate solution.
Police from Kadamtala Police Station rushed to the spot and attempted to clear the obstruction but failed. Later, Kadamtala Panchayat Samiti Chairman Mihir Ranjan Nath arrived at the scene to speak with the protesters.
The road blockade caused significant disruption to commuters, with long queues of vehicles forming on both sides of the road.
One of the protesters, Arati Sabad, expressed the community’s plight:
“We have blocked the road because of the water crisis. There has been no water since Kali Puja—almost two months, maybe even more. We informed the Panchayat many times, but nothing has been done. What are we supposed to do? How will families manage? Children need water to bathe and eat. Where will people find enough water? That is why we had no choice but to block the road. No one is standing with us.”
The villagers have warned that if the drinking water supply is not restored immediately, they will intensify their agitation in the coming days.
