Agartala, Nov 29: A man was brutally assaulted on suspicion of child trafficking on Saturday morning at Icharbil Sholghoria under Teliamura police station, triggering tension across the locality.
According to locals, the unidentified man was allegedly seen speaking to children in a suspicious manner, following which residents confronted him and started beating him. He collapsed on the road in a bloodied condition.
Teliamura police rushed to the spot, brought the situation under control, and rescued the injured man. He was shifted to Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital. Police later said the man hails from Bihar and is being questioned to ascertain why he was in the area.
Tension prevails in the locality, while police have initiated a detailed investigation into the incident. Authorities urged people to remain alert but avoid taking the law into their own hands.
