Tripura, 29 Nov 2025: A shocking act of vandalism in the city went viral on social media last night, prompting swift police action. Several youths were seen destroying flags, festoons, glow signs and even traffic speed-limit boards across Shyamali Bazar, Shalbagan and Gurkhabasti under the New Capital Complex (NCC) Police Station area.
After the video circulated widely, the Traffic Department registered a specific case, following which the New Capital Complex Police launched an investigation. Reviewing CCTV footage from the affected areas, police successfully identified the suspects involved in the incident.
According to the SDPO Sanjoy Biswas of New Capital Complex Police Station, nine youths have been detained in connection with the vandalism. During interrogation, all of them admitted that they were under the influence of alcohol when they committed the act. Police said the accused are students from different colleges in the city and were returning from a programme when the incident occurred. However, the motive behind their actions will be further clarified after detailed questioning.
Police have seized the motorcycles and vehicles used by the accused during the act. Videos recorded on their mobile phones have also been confiscated for evidence.
The detained youths will be produced before the court tomorrow, the SDPO added.
