Tripura, 29 Nov 2025: Daily vehicle checks at the Ganganagar Police Station naka point led to a major NDPS seizure on Saturday. Police signalled a vehicle (registration TR-01-0759) coming from Gondachhara towards Ambassa to stop, but the driver broke through the barricade and sped away. A team immediately launched a chase.
The vehicle was later found abandoned at Purnajoy Para, where the driver had fled. Another vehicle, a TR-01-CA-0763, was also spotted in the vicinity. A thorough search of both vehicles led to the recovery of 547 kg of dry cannabis, packed in multiple packets. Police estimate the market value of the seized contraband to be around ₹2 crore.
Police detained two individuals from South Tripura, who were seen loitering near the vehicles under suspicious circumstances. They are being questioned for possible links to the transportation of the narcotics.
The operation was led by SDPO Nirupam Dutta and OC Gautam Debbarma. Officers also recovered several fake number plates from the two vehicles, which police suspect were used to evade detection during transport.
Speaking to the media, a senior police official said the vehicles identified as a Tata Harrier and a Hyundai Venue ignored the police signal at the Ganganagar naka point and fled. After an extensive search, both vehicles were located in a deserted area of Purnajoy Para, abandoned by the drivers. Following due legal procedure in the presence of magistrate-level officers and independent witnesses, the vehicles were opened and searched, leading to the massive haul of suspected dry cannabis. An FSL team is examining the samples.
The officer added that the recovery of multiple fake number plates indicates an attempt to mislead police during transport. The investigation is underway.
