Agartala: Nov 28. A two-month-old infant died on Friday afternoon at Dhalai District Hospital in Kulai, sparking grief and allegations from the family, who claim the baby collapsed moments after receiving two injections from a nurse.
According to hospital records, the child had been referred from Ganda Twisa Primary Health four days earlier due to severe illness. Paediatrician Dr. Pawan Debbarma began treatment upon admission, stating that the infant had been in critical condition from the start, requiring feeding through a tube.
Dr. Debbarma told reporters that the baby’s condition suddenly deteriorated on Friday, turning dark in colour, after which the on-duty nurse administered two injections. The infant died shortly afterward.
He clarified that doctors never intentionally endangered a patient’s life and called the death “deeply unfortunate.” He also noted that the child was earlier advised to be taken to GB Hospital, but the family refused.
The incident has plunged the grieving family into mourning, as they demand answers over the circumstances leading to the tragic death.
