Agartala, Nov 28: The Twipra Students’ Federation (TSF), an independent students’ organisation and a constituent of NESO, met Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu on Friday and submitted a charter of demands highlighting issues related to education, land rights and indigenous political representation.
A delegation led by TSF Vice President John Debbarma held discussions with the Governor at Raj Bhavan. After the meeting, Debbarma told reporters that the Governor listened to their concerns in detail and assured that the demands would be placed before the Chief Minister for consideration.
According to TSF, the key demand is the establishment of a Central Tribal University in the TTAADC area to ensure better access to higher education for tribal students. The organisation also sought a constitutional solution for the tribal population of Tripura.
Debbarma said the student body has asked for enhanced legislative and political rights for the indigenous communities, including secure land rights for landless tribal families. TSF also demanded special recruitment drives to clear backlogs in various government departments.
The memorandum further proposed greater financial and legislative powers for the TTAADC, stating that stronger autonomy would help in effective policymaking and development planning for tribal areas.
