Tripura, 27 Nov 2025: A middle-aged man was killed on the spot after being struck by a speeding battery-operated e-rickshaw while returning home after selling milk. The incident took place at Kherengjuri area on the Assam–Agartala National Highway under Churaibari Police Station, triggering widespread tension across the locality. Notably, this is the second major incident reported from Kherengjuri within just two days.
According to reports, around 8:30 pm on Wednesday, the victim was walking home as usual after selling cow’s milk. Suddenly, an illegally operated, high-speed battery-powered e-rickshaw loaded with illegal agar wood logs came from the opposite direction and rammed into him. The impact threw the man onto the highway, and the vehicle reportedly ran over him, causing severe head and body injuries.
His brother, who witnessed the incident, immediately rushed him to Kadamtala Social Health Centre. However, the attending doctor, Sandeep Deb, declared him dead on arrival.
The deceased has been identified as Debal Sinha (55), son of Nishikanta Sinha, a resident of Kherengjuri area under Ward No. 1 of Laxminagar, Churaibari.
The body has been kept at the hospital morgue for post-mortem.
Meanwhile, locals chased the e-rickshaw driver, who abandoned the vehicle at Khadimpara and fled the scene. Upon receiving information, Churaibari Police rushed to the spot and have registered a case of accidental death. An investigation is underway.
