Tripura, 27 Nov 2025: A family in Jharna Nagar under Ambassa subdivision is setting an inspiring example by taking forward dragon fruit cultivation initiated by the late Birendra Chandra Das. The project, made possible through financial assistance from the Agriculture Department, continues to grow even after his demise.
According to local sources, the Agriculture Department had earlier developed a dragon fruit orchard for Birendra Chandra Das. Following his recent passing, his wife and son-in-law have taken responsibility for maintaining the plantation. Although last year’s yield was modest, commercial production has not yet begun. However, the family remains hopeful that full-scale commercial harvesting will start soon. To address water scarcity, a government-constructed pond has been created adjacent to the orchard.
In an interview, Jayaprabha Debbarma, Superintendent of the Ambassa Agriculture Department, stated that the department has been providing all necessary support—from saplings to pipelines and other essential requirements.
On the other hand, Anup Koch, the late Birendra’s son-in-law, mentioned that around 700 saplings were planted in the orchard. The family plans to expand the plantation further in the coming days. He expressed optimism that with continued government assistance, the orchard will grow even larger in the future.
Through such initiatives, many people are steadily progressing on the path toward self-reliance with the support of government schemes.
