Agartala, Nov 26: Tripura Congress president Ashish Kumar Saha on Wednesday said the state is facing a complete breakdown of the rule of law, with political attacks on opposition workers turning into a daily reality.
At a press conference in the Congress Bhawan, Saha said new incidents of violence are emerging almost every day, shocking even the citizens.
Ahead of Constitution Day, the Congress initiated preparations in all nine organisational districts. But on Tuesday night in Dharmanagar, alleged BJP workers attacked the district Congress office, vandalised the premises, destroyed party flags and other materials, and set them on fire.
Locals raised an alarm, forcing the attackers to flee. Police and fire tenders later reached the spot and controlled the fire.
On Wednesday morning, Congress supporters held a protest rally, filed an FIR, and blocked the road demanding strict action.
Saha accused the RSS of historically disrespecting the Constitution and said the BJP government only talks of celebrating Constitution Day but does not uphold constitutional values.
He added that Congress worker Pramesh Malakar was also injured in a related attack and was admitted to hospital.
Saha demanded the immediate arrest of those involved and urged the government to restore law and order in the state.
