Dharmanagar, Nov 26: Churaibari Police have arrested 57-year-old Madan Gopan Sinha, the main accused in the November 24 attack at Arjun Tilla that left an eight-year-old boy dead and his mother critically injured.
The victims, Vijaya Sinha and her son Amrit, were attacked with sharp weapons while returning from Bagbasa Covenant English Medium School. The child was declared dead at Shanicherra PHC, and the mother was referred to Silchar, sparking public outrage and a blockade on NH-8.
Police detained four suspects from Nadiyapur for questioning, which led to a late-night raid in Ward No. 6 of Shanishchhara and the arrest of the accused. He was produced before the district court on Wednesday, where police sought a five-day remand.
A case has been registered under Sections 34/25, 103(1), 118(2) and 61(2) of BNS. A special team also recorded the injured woman’s statement in Silchar. Police say their initial action has helped bring some calm to the area.
