Agartala, Nov 24: Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Choudhury has raised serious allegations after the arrest of former Union MoS Pratima Bhoumik’s brother, accusing him of breaching immigration rules by bringing a Bangladeshi woman into Tripura through forged documents.
According to Choudhury, the accused allegedly used the name of Bhoumik’s father to prepare fake papers in Bangladesh, which he described as a clear violation of law. He said this incident reflects a deeper collapse of administrative discipline under the current government.
Choudhury clarified that he has no objection to marriages between Indian and Bangladeshi citizens, but insisted that every cross-border union must follow proper legal procedure. He also claimed that this case is not an isolated one, alleging that several individuals connected with the ruling party have been involved in illegal activities since 1971 by exploiting political protection.
He urged the police to conduct a fair investigation into the entire network behind such activities, including possible links to illegal trade and smuggling.
Reacting to recent verbal attacks by senior BJP leaders, Choudhury said their comments reveal the character of their own party, adding that he will continue to demand lawful and accountable governance.
