Tripura, 24 Nov 2025: A young man was injured after BSF personnel opened fire during an anti-smuggling operation along the India–Bangladesh border at Brahmendranagar in North Tripura on Monday morning around 10:25 AM. The incident occurred near BSFL No. 138–139 and Gate No. 10 under the Brahmendranagar BOP of the 97th Battalion’s C-Company.
The injured youth has been identified as Akash Das (27), a resident of Ward No. 2 under Agnipasa Gram Panchayat and the son of the late Gopal Das. According to allegations, he was attempting to cut the border fence to smuggle goods into Bangladesh when the on-duty BSF personnel spotted him and tried to stop him. As the situation escalated, BSF personnel reportedly fired one round to control the situation, which struck Akash Das in the abdomen.
He was immediately taken to Dharmanagar District Hospital, where doctors confirmed that he had sustained an intra-abdominal bullet injury.
Doctor’s Statement:
“A patient was brought in – his name is Akash Das, 25 years old. He has come with an intra-abdominal bullet injury. The patient is bleeding. We have provided immediate necessary treatment including blood transfusion and antibiotics. We have called the surgeon. Further decisions will depend on the patient’s condition.
Regarding whether the bullet is inside or has exited, that can only be confirmed after opening the abdomen. It’s not clear at this moment. The patient may need to be referred, depending on the surgeon’s assessment,” the doctor added.
Doctors said his condition is currently stable, but due to the internal injury, he is being considered for referral to GB Pant Hospital, Agartala for advanced treatment.
The incident created tension in the locality, though the situation is now under control. Both local police and BSF authorities have initiated separate investigations into the alleged smuggling attempt and the subsequent firing.
