Agartala, Nov 21 2025: In a significant step toward strengthening financial governance in Tripura, the Taxes Organisation of the Finance Department on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). The agreement was formalised at Conference Hall No. II of the Civil Secretariat, marking a focused effort to enhance capacity-building initiatives for state officials and stakeholders involved in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) framework.
The collaboration aims to provide specialised training, technical support, and updated knowledge resources to officers working on GST implementation. With continuous reforms under the GST regime, the state government expects the partnership to improve professional competency and streamline tax administration.

Speaking at the ceremony, Apurba Roy, IAS, Secretary of the Finance Department, highlighted the global reputation of ICAI and its contribution to India’s financial systems.
“The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India is truly one of a kind—an institution of excellence. Not only in India but globally, it is recognised as one of the finest institutions in the world,” he said. Roy noted that India’s accounting practices are “five to six decades ahead of many countries,” largely due to ICAI’s consistent efforts in standard setting and professional training.

He added that the MoU would play a crucial role in supporting GST reforms in the state. “For any reform to deliver the best results, it is essential to resolve even the smallest issues. There may be challenges that officials do not immediately recognise, and these can be addressed swiftly with the Institute’s support,” he said, emphasising the value of technical guidance in achieving effective tax governance.
The agreement is expected to pave the way for regular workshops, technical sessions, and advisory support to help officers navigate the complexities of GST laws, compliance requirements, and procedural updates.
Officials from the Finance Department and representatives of ICAI were present during the signing ceremony, marking the beginning of a collaborative effort to strengthen Tripura’s financial administration.
