Agartala: Nov 22. In a major strike against liquor smuggling, Panisagar police on Friday intercepted a Bolero pickup (Reg: MZ-01-Q-9538) near the Uptakhali Paradise Hotel area on the Assam-Agartala National Highway and seized 100 cans of Kingfisher beer concealed inside egg cartons. The driver, identified as Lallnanthunga of West Vangmun, was arrested on the spot. Police estimate the market value of the seized alcohol to be around ₹50,000.
According to police sources, the vehicle was transporting groceries, under which the beer cans were cleverly hidden. Preliminary investigation suggests the consignment was being smuggled from Dharmanagar to Mizoram via Damcherra.
Panisagar Police have registered a case under relevant NDPS sections and are conducting intensive interrogation of the accused to trace the smuggling network. The arrested driver was produced before the Dharmanagar District Court earlier today.
