Agartala, Nov 21: A three-day film festival celebrating the Birth Centenary of legendary filmmaker Ritwik Ghatak got underway at Sukanta Academy on Friday. The event has been jointly organised by PARISAR, Gandhighat and the Department of Journalism & Mass Communication of Tripura University.

The opening programme was attended by Sanjay Mukherjee of the Faculty of Film Studies, Jadavpur University, Kolkata; former Justice Shubhashis Talapatra; and Tripura-based filmmaker Dipankar Bhattacharjee. Senior faculty members, including Prof. Salim Shah and Dr. Sunil Kalai, along with members of PARISAR and other organisers, were also present.
Speakers, especially Sanjay Mukherjee, highlighted Ghatak’s unique creations and the social messages embedded in his films, noting their continued relevance for contemporary audiences.
The first day featured the screening of Ajantrik, drawing students, researchers and film enthusiasts to the auditorium.

According to the organisers, Subarnarekha and Komal Gandhar will be screened on the second day of the programme, while the concluding day on November 23 will feature Jukti Takko Aar Gappo and Meghe Dhaka Tara.
