Tripura, 21 Nov 2025: The College of Fisheries, Central Agricultural University (Imphal), Lembucherra, Tripura, celebrated World Fisheries Day 2025 with great enthusiasm on Friday. The programme was led by Prof. A. B. Patel, Dean, College of Fisheries (CAU-I), and brought together faculty members, scholars, and staff to mark the global occasion.
This year’s observance highlighted two themes the international theme, “We have not caught anything, but at your word I will let down the nets,” and India’s theme, “India’s Blue Transformation: Strengthening Value Addition in Seafood Exports.”
The event began with a Welcome Address by Dr. Hoilenting, Assistant Professor, followed by the Inaugural Address delivered by Prof. Basant Kumar Singh, Professor. Dr. Amitava Ghosh, Assistant Professor, presented an insightful note on the significance of World Fisheries Day.
A key highlight of the programme was a special talk by Dr. Prakash Sharma, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK-Sikkim, who spoke on the vital role of marginal fishers in promoting sustainable fisheries across Northeast India. His address underlined the need to empower small-scale fishers and adopt responsible fishing practices to ensure long-term ecological and economic sustainability.
The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Y. Bedajit Singh, Professor. The programme was efficiently anchored by Ms. Tako Yame.
This year’s celebration served as an inspiring platform to reflect on the challenges and opportunities in the fisheries sector, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to India’s blue transformation and to advancing a more value-driven, sustainable fisheries framework.
