Agartala, Nov 18: Tripura University on Monday cancelled a scheduled one-day conclave on “One North East: From Regional Unity to National Confluence”, barely a day before it was to take place at the MBB Auditorium.
The event, planned for November 19, was expected to feature Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma as the guest speaker. Debbarma, who recently announced a move to merge his party with a wider North East–based political platform named One North East, was slated to interact with students and faculty members during the programme.
However, the university issued a late-night notification announcing that the conclave “stands cancelled due to unavoidable circumstances.” The order, signed by the Registrar (i/c), did not elaborate on the reason behind the decision.
Reacting to the last-minute development, Debbarma stated that he had been prepared to attend the programme and engage with the academic community.
“I was informed of its cancellation at the last minute,” he wrote in a social media post.

However, he remained hopeful of another opportunity in the future to meet Tripura University students and faculty.
Sources within the university said that the event was being organised in collaboration with a few NGOs and faculty members and was intended to familiarise students with the emerging One North East platform. No official explanation was provided for the abrupt cancellation.
