Tripura, 18 Nov 2025: A Class 2 student of Khudiram Basu English Medium School, Deepannita Pal, died on Tuesday after battling complications from a severe sunstroke an incident her family blames squarely on the school’s negligence.
According to the family, the incident occurred on 9 November, when the school organised a programme and allegedly made students stand under the open sun for an extended period. Deepannita, feeling unwell, reportedly told her teacher that she was unable to stand in the heat. However, her plea was allegedly ignored, and she was instructed to continue participating.
Soon after, Deepannita collapsed. The school informed her family, who rushed her to the hospital. Doctors diagnosed her with acute sunstroke, which resulted in partial paralysis. Despite several days of treatment, she succumbed to her condition today.

Family Accuses School of Total Negligence
Deepannita’s father, devastated by the loss, accused the school of failing both during and after the incident.
He said:
“My daughter kept telling her teacher she wasn’t feeling well in the sun, but no one listened. Even in winter, they made the children stand in the scorching heat. When we took her to the hospital, doctors told us she had suffered a sunstroke.
The next day I called her class teacher to inform them, but no one from the school came to see her—not a single person. My brother even contacted the District Magistrate. Still, the school showed no concern.”
The family has demanded strict action against the institution, alleging that indifference and irresponsible behaviour led to the death of their young daughter.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
