Tripura, 18 Nov 2025: Once again, the Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital has turned into a corridor for the rampant smuggling of cannabis. Taking advantage of the secluded area behind the hospital, four young men and two young women reportedly arrived with an Eeco vehicle and a motorcycle to carry out the illegal trade.
The hospital’s security guards became suspicious and chased the group. In a hurry, the smugglers abandoned two bags filled with cannabis and fled four youths escaped using the Eeco vehicle and the bike, while the two young women ran away through the front of the hospital.
Surprisingly, while most managed to escape, a youth carrying the two bags was caught by local residents near the hospital’s Chowmuhani area. As his statements appeared inconsistent and suspicious, locals informed the police. However, the moment he heard that the police had been alerted, he fled the spot on foot.
Later, the police arrived and recovered 16 packets of cannabis from the two abandoned bags and took the seized items to Teliamura Police Station.
Residents expressed shock and concern, pointing out that despite young men and women openly trafficking and consuming narcotic substances across Teliamura town, the police administration seems to remain unresponsive.
