Tripura, 17 Nov 2025: Acting on a secret tip-off, Teliamura Police on Monday detained two individuals and seized a large quantity of cannabis from the Trishabari Railway Station area. Sub-Inspector Chittaranjan Debbarma of Tripura Police detailed the operation in an official statement.
According to the SI, police received confidential information in the late afternoon that a few persons carrying black bags were roaming suspiciously in the Trisabari Taijangchhni locality. Responding promptly, police personnel rushed to the spot and detained two suspects along with the bags.

A search of the bags led to the recovery of a substantial amount of cannabis. The seized drugs were later weighed and sealed as per procedure.
8 kg 900 grams of cannabis was recovered from one suspect. 9 kg was recovered from the other.
The accused have been identified as:
• Santosh Debbarma of Goyacharan Para, under Radhapur Police Station.
• Shyamal Debbarma of Bina Kubra, under Mandai Police Station.
SI Debbarma stated that cannabis does not have a fixed market rate, but in the black market it typically sells for ₹15,000–₹20,000 per kilogram, depending on quality.
Police have registered a case under the NDPS Act and initiated legal action against the duo.
Frequent recovery of cannabis and other illegal narcotics in and around Trishabari Railway Station has raised concerns over the role and effectiveness of GRP policing in the area.
