Tripura, 17 Nov 2025: On Sunday, four separate road accidents took place within a span of a few hours on the alternate National Highway passing through Radhapur and Sripur areas under Dharmanagar subdivision in North Tripura district. Multiple people were seriously injured, and 72-year-old Arun Dutta lost his life. He was a daily wage labourer and the sole earning member of his family.
According to local sources, the fatal accident happened on Sunday night when Arun Dutta was returning home via the alternate National Highway near Sripur. A speeding, number-less motorcycle suddenly rammed into him. He collapsed on the road with severe injuries. Eyewitnesses alleged that the rider fled the spot immediately without offering any help.
Fire service personnel reached the location after receiving information and took him to Dharmanagar District Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. His death has cast a shadow of grief over his family.
Meanwhile, residents of Radhapur staged a road blockade on Sunday protesting the recurring accidents in the area. They alleged that poor road conditions, unregistered vehicles, reckless speeding, and lack of administrative monitoring are responsible for the rising number of mishaps. They also claimed that despite at least four accidents occurring on the same road in a single day, authorities have taken no steps toward road repairs.
Later, Dharmanagar Police arrived at the spot, brought the situation under control, and initiated an investigation. Police have seized the offending motorcycle, but the rider remains absconding.
