Agartala: Nov 17: North Tripura’s Forest Department pulled off another big win, recovering a large haul of illegally processed teak wood and agar wood in a coordinated early-morning operation on Monday.
Acting on a tip-off, the Dharmanagar Subdivision Forest team launched a special raid around 6:30 AM, led by Range Officer Supriya Debnath. Multiple locations under the Churaibari Forest Beat including Churaibari, Phulbari, and Laxminagar were searched simultaneously.
During the hours-long operation, forest personnel recovered 175 cubic feet of sawn teak wood. They also seized two high-speed autos bearing registration no- TR05A-2597 and TR05-4375 suspected of being used to transport illegal forest produce. A large quantity of cut agar wood was found stored inside the vehicles.
Foresters from Churaibari, Lalchhara, Bagbassa, Shanicherra, Panisagar, and Juri Beats participated in the raid, which created a wave of tension and alertness across the area.
Speaking to reporters, Ranger Supriya Debnath said the seized teak wood carries an estimated black-market value of around ₹3 lakh. He added that such operations will continue to curb illegal trade and smuggling of forest resources.
