Cocoa, widely used in premium chocolate production, has emerged as a promising cash crop across various regions of India. Researchers highlighted that modern agricultural practices, combined with scientific support, are enabling farmers to shift from traditional cropping patterns to high-value produce like cocoa. Tripura’s hilly terrain and climatic conditions are considered particularly favourable for its cultivation.
According to the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), experimental cocoa farming began nearly five years ago in Jampui, North Tripura, and has shown encouraging success. This positive outcome has motivated agriculture experts to envision cocoa as a potential commercial crop for the state.
Officials urged farmers across Tripura to adopt cocoa cultivation with the assistance of the Agriculture Department and KVKs, aiming to build sustainable income opportunities and strengthen the state’s agri-economy.
