Agartala: Nov 14. The Diabetes Welfare Society organised an extensive diabetes awareness and screening programme in Agartala on the occasion of World Diabetes Day, guided by the encouragement of Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu. The event brought together senior physicians, health workers and local volunteers to provide free medical consultations, blood sugar testing, insulin guidance, and dietary counselling to attendees.
Doctors explained that diabetes is rising rapidly due to lifestyle changes, irregular food habits and lack of physical activity. They stressed the importance of early detection, routine monitoring, timely treatment, and disciplined diet for preventing complications. Specialists also highlighted issues such as nerve damage, eye disease, kidney problems and cardiovascular risks associated with uncontrolled diabetes.
Participants received counselling on insulin management, foot-care routines, and long-term health maintenance. Medical experts urged families to stay alert to early symptoms and to seek medical help before complications develop. Volunteers distributed awareness leaflets, encouraging citizens to adopt healthier diets, regular exercise and periodic check-ups.
The programme concluded with a collective appeal to strengthen community-level awareness so that diabetes can be controlled before it becomes a wider public health burden.
