Agartala: Nov 12. In a major crackdown on illegal cultivation, Melaghar Police destroyed around 65,000 cannabis plants during a special operation conducted at Shibnagar Khaschoumuhani under Melaghar Police Station limits.
According to reports, the illegal plantation was spread across 20 separate plots in the area. The operation, led by Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jayanta Das, included Sub-Inspector Subir Saha, male and female TSR personnel, CRPF jawans, and Forest Department staff.
The team carried out the raid over several hours, uprooting and burning the massive haul of ganja plants on the spot. OC Jayanta Das stated that police have intensified their drive against such illegal activities, assuring that strict action will continue against those involved in illicit cultivation.
Local residents lauded the police for their proactive move and expressed hope that such illegal practices will be permanently curbed in the region.
