Agartala: Nov 10. In a joint operation, the Border Security Force (BSF) and Madhupur Police on Monday apprehended three notorious bike thieves while they were allegedly attempting to smuggle two stolen motorcycles into Bangladesh through the Kamthana border area.
According to police sources, the arrested individuals have been identified as Bimal Das, son of Avani Das, and Tinku Sarkar, son of Haripada Sarkar both residents of Joynagar, Agartala along with Khokan Nama, son of Fatik Nama from Ramnagar No. 1 area, Agartala.
The stolen bikes bearing registration numbers TR07C-5775 and TR01N-9734 were recovered during the operation. The trio reportedly tried to flee after spotting BSF personnel on duty but were quickly intercepted.
BSF sources said the accused were caught and detained at the Kamthana BSF camp, where they were interrogated overnight. They sustained injuries after being allegedly beaten by locals during the capture. Later, they were handed over to Madhupur Police.
Madhupur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Debjit Chatterjee confirmed the arrests, crediting the success to close coordination between the BSF and police. A case has been registered, and the accused will be produced before the Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Court on Tuesday.
The incident once again highlights the rising cases of motorcycle theft across the state and the importance of joint operations between BSF and police in tackling cross-border crime.
