Tripura, 6 Nov 2025: The state-level badminton school sports meet for boys and girls under 14 and 17 years of age commenced today at the VKI Indoor Hall in Belonia. The three-day event is organized by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports.
Cooperation Minister Shuklacharan Noatia inaugurated the tournament. In his address, the minister said that the state government is giving top priority to the development of sports infrastructure and enhancing players’ skills. He urged young players to showcase their talents through this sports meet.
South Tripura Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Deepak Dutta, in his speech, highlighted the importance of sports in building a healthy society. He added that the government is continuously working to provide better facilities to athletes, and special training is being arranged for players who qualify for state and national-level competitions.
Among others who spoke were Tripura Sports Council member Dipayan Choudhury and Joint Secretary of the Tripura School Sports Board, Shubhanjit Sinha.
The event was attended by MLA Swapna Majumder, Rishyamukh Panchayat Samiti Chairman Shambhunath Kar, Belonia Municipal Council Education and Health Committee Chairman Anupam Chakraborty, social worker Sayantan Dutta, and officials from the Sports Department.
District Sports Officer Ritesh Shil delivered the welcome address, and the event was presided over by Belonia Municipal Council Chairperson Nikhil Chandra Gopal.
A total of 124 players, along with their physical education teachers and coaches from all eight districts of the state, are participating in the tournament, which will continue till November 8.
