Agartala: Nov 06. As part of a statewide agitation to press for a seven-point charter of demands, the Sonamura District units of the Youth Congress, NSUI, Mahila Congress, and Seva Dal jointly organized a four-hour-long sit-in protest at the Sonamura Outdoor Chowmuhani on Wednesday.
The main demands raised included strict government action against the growing drug menace in Tripura, immediate filling of vacant posts across government departments, and halting the privatization of state-run schools. Protesters also called for allowing the police to act independently to maintain law and order, reducing the soaring prices of essential commodities, and ensuring safety and justice amid increasing incidents of murder and rape.
District Congress President Deepak Chakraborty, former President Chayanjit Laskar, and several senior Congress leaders attended the event, which witnessed an enthusiastic turnout of party workers.
Speaking to reporters, District Youth Congress President Sanjit Laskar strongly criticized the BJP government, calling it a “jumla government.” He said, “Unemployment is rising rapidly across the state. Not a single promise made before the elections has been fulfilled. The future of our youth is in darkness under this regime. People must reject the BJP and strengthen the Congress to bring change.”
The Congress leaders also intent to intensify its agitation in the coming days.
