Agartala: Nov 05. An awareness seminar on human trafficking, organized by the Tripura Commission for Women (TCW), was held on Wednesday at Sachin Debbarman Memorial Hall, Bishramganj, in Sepahijala district. The event aimed to raise awareness about the growing threats of human trafficking and ways to safeguard women from such crimes.
The session was inaugurated by Archana Majumdar, Member of the National Commission for Women, who highlighted how women and girls often fall prey to traffickers through deception and exploitation. She also detailed the legal provisions and protections available under Indian law to ensure women’s safety and empowerment. Majumdar urged participants to remain vigilant against blackmail and trafficking tactics, emphasizing the importance of community awareness in combating the menace.
Tripura Women’s Commission Chairperson Jharna Debbarma, Member Secretary Madhab Debnath, Additional District Magistrate Upendra Jamatia, Superintendent of Police Vijay Debbarma, and District Social Welfare Officer Uttam Kumar Das were among the dignitaries present.
A large number of Self-Help Group members and Anganwadi workers attended the programme, marking an active community response to the issue.
In the second session, Additional Superintendent of Police Rajib Sarkar and several other speakers discussed various forms of crimes against women and the steps that can be taken at the grassroots level to prevent them.
