Tripura, 05 Nov 2025: The “Mukhyamantri Sushtha Shoishob Sushtha Kaishor Abhiyan” is being successfully implemented in Gomati district, with a special focus on Tetanus-Diphtheria (TD) vaccination for children aged 10 and 16 years. The TD vaccine, which helps prevent both tetanus and diphtheria, is being administered as part of the 8th phase of the campaign that began on October 24.
According to Dr. Kamal Reang, Chief Medical Officer of Gomati district, a total of 1,099 children have received the TD vaccine so far. Vaccination drives are being carried out across several schools and health centers, including Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Hejachhara School, Dhan Sardar Para SB School, Ayushman Arogya Mandir (Chataria, Tepania Block), Pathar SB School (Kalaban), Mirza Chandpur High School, Khilpara Primary School, Bamani Chowdhury SB School, and Gamaraiya High School under Matabari Block, among others.
As per official data, 605 children aged 10 years and 494 children aged 16 years have been vaccinated. District Immunization Officer Dr. Chiranjit Noatia explained that the TD vaccine is administered in two doses, one at the age of 10 and another at 16. He added that the education department has extended great support in the implementation of the program.
The TD vaccine protects adolescents from two diseases Tetanus and Diphtheria (Whooping Cough). Since school-age children are often exposed to injuries, the tetanus vaccine is vital for preventing infection. The combination vaccine, provided by the government, also includes diphtheria protection and is not available in the open market.
Dr. Reang stated that even after the campaign, children aged 10 and 16 can receive the vaccine free of cost from any government health center. He assured that the vaccine is both safe and effective, and urged all parents to ensure their children receive both doses.
This information was shared through a press release issued by the office of the Chief Medical Officer, Gomati District.
