Agartala: Nov 03. Twelve players from North Tripura who clinched medals at the national-level Thang-Ta Championship held in Goa were accorded a warm reception upon their return to Dharmanagar today.
A total of 22 athletes from Tripura participated in the prestigious martial arts competition, of whom 13 bagged medals— 12 from North Tripura and one from Unakoti district. The medal-winning players arrived this afternoon at Dharmanagar Railway Station by the Sealdah–Sabroom Kanchanjungha Express.
To honor their success, North Tripura District Magistrate Chandni Chandran greeted the athletes at the station, presenting each with an uttariya (traditional scarf) and extending her best wishes for their bright future. The district administration announced that a grand felicitation ceremony will be organized on November 12 to celebrate their achievements.
According to officials from the District Youth Affairs and Sports Department, this victory will further strengthen the district’s sporting culture and inspire young athletes.
Despite the train’s delay, enthusiasm among the crowd remained high as officials, families, and supporters cheered for the victorious players who brought glory to North Tripura and the state as a whole.
Thang-Ta is a traditional martial art form of Manipur that combines weapon-based combat using swords and spears with controlled breathing techniques.
