Agartala: Nov 03. Tension has erupted in the Bishramganj area of Sepahijala district after reports emerged that the administration plans to form a new Bishramganj Nagar Panchayat by including several TTAADC (Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council) villages. Tipra Motha leaders have strongly objected to this move, calling it an encroachment into tribal administrative areas.
A delegation led by Subodh Debbarma, MLA from Charilam constituency, and Gautam Buddha Debbarma, Tipra Motha’s Charilam Block President, met the District Magistrate of Sepahijala on Monday to officially lodge an objection against the proposed inclusion. They submitted a memorandum demanding that ADC villages such as Puskarbari, Naljala, Harang Para, Ramkrishna Palli, and nearby tribal hamlets be excluded from the Nagar Panchayat proposal and remain under ADC jurisdiction.
In the memorandum, MLA Subodh Debbarma emphasized that these villages— Sematal Amtali, Jur Pukur, Puskarbari, Vivekananda Palli, and Naljala– have historically been part of the tribal administrative region since before 1993-94, and that their exclusion contradicts the provisions of the TTAADC framework. He requested the administration to uphold the cultural and historical identity of these areas by keeping them within the Ampli ADC Village under TTAADC.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Buddha Debbarma asserted that Tipra Motha will not allow the formation of the Bishramganj Nagar Panchayat by including tribal-dominated ADC areas. He further warned that the party would soon submit a formal deputation to the District Magistrate with local residents if the proposal is not withdrawn.
